Canary Islands Flight and Travel Information
Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are served by regular flights from most regional UK airports. Direct flights to La Palma operate each Monday from Gatwick and Manchester.
We are happy to book any available flight that suits your particular requirements, rather than restricting our holidays to certain flights on specific days. Supplements will apply to cover the differential in cost between your chosen flight option and the standard option upon which our brochure prices are based. As most airlines now operate "fluid pricing" policies with fares rising and falling in line with supply and demand, flight supplements will vary depending on your chosen departure date, departure airport and how far in advance you book. As a general rule, supplements tend to be highest for weekend flights, especially for school holiday departures such as Christmas, Easter and Half Term, when demand invariably outstrips supply. We will provide a definite quote for your chosen departure date at the time of booking, and advise you of any charges that certain airlines apply for options such as checked-in baggage or inflight meals.
We will quote you the latest available flight times when you make your booking and advise you of any schedule changes that may occur subsequently, but please be aware that such changes are outside our control, and only constitute as a "major change" under the terms of our booking conditions if the departure time of your outbound flight changes by 12 hours or more from the timings confirmed on your original confirmation invoice.
Unless stated otherwise, check-in time for all flights is two hours prior to the confirmed departure time on your flight tickets, which you will receive approximately two weeks in advance of travel. The flight time from the UK to the Canary Islands is approximately four to four-and-a-half hours
Flights to Lanzarote
Direct flights to Arrecife Airport operate from most UK airports, including Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. The widest choice of flights operates on Thursdays, with Sundays also offering a good choice of departure points. From Gatwick, flights operate up to five days a week, and there are also daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid with Iberia. Our prices are based on direct charter flights from London Gatwick on Thursdays; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £10 - 80.
Travel to La Graciosa
To travel to La Graciosa, you will fly to Arrecife Airport, from where you will be transferred by taxi or minibus to Orzola for your ferry crossing. To make your connection on the same day, your outbound flight should be scheduled to land no later than 1430 hours and your homeward flight should depart no earlier than 1200 hours, otherwise we will need to quote you for an overnight stay in Lanzarote. In the unlikely event of an extended flight delay or any disruption to the ferry services causing you to miss your connection, we will arrange accommodation on Lanzarote at no extra cost.
Flights to Gran Canaria
Direct flights to Las Palmas Airport operate from most UK airports, including Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. The widest choice of flights operates on Mondays, with a more limited range of departure points available on Saturdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There are also daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid with Iberia. Our prices are based on direct charter flights from London Gatwick on Mondays; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £10 - 80.
Flights to Tenerife
Direct flights to Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) Airport operate from most UK airports, including Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. The widest choice of flights operates on Fridays, with a reasonable range of departure points available on Tuesdays and Sundays. During the winter season, there are daily Gatwick flights, and flights from Manchester operate up to 5 times per week. There are currently no direct flights from the UK to Tenerife North (Los Rodeos) Airport, but Iberia offer daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid. Our prices are based on direct charter flights from London Gatwick on Fridays; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £10 - 80.
Travel to La Gomera
Currently, La Gomera's small airport handles just two daily flights each from Tenerife North and Gran Canaria, operated on small aircraft. The most economical and convenient way to travel to La Gomera is usually to fly to Tenerife South airport, and take the high-speed catamaran ferry from nearby Los Cristianos, which operates 5 times per day and takes around 30-40 minutes. Our prices include the ferry crossing as well as taxi transfers between the airport and the ferry port. To make your connection on the same day, your outbound flight should be scheduled to land no later than 1730 hours and your homebound flight should depart no earlier than 1100 hours, otherwise we will need to quote you for an overnight stay in Tenerife. In the unlikely event of an extended flight delay or any disruption to the ferry services causing you to miss your connection, we will arrange accommodation on Tenerife at no extra cost.
Flights to La Palma
During the current summer season, the only direct flights from the UK to Santa Cruz de La Palma operate on Mondays from Gatwick. From November 2011, flights will operate on Fridays, from both Gatwick and Manchester. Our prices are based on the Gatwick option, with a supplement for Manchester flights (typically £20-50).
Travel from other regional airports or on different days of the week requires connections via Gran Canaria or Tenerife, and will add considerably to the overall cost of your holiday. When flying to Tenerife, you can continue your journey by ferry from the port of Los Cristianos, but the crossing takes 2-3 hours depending on weather conditions, and only operates once a day, with a 2000hrs departure from Tenerife and an 0630hrs return. Alternatively, there are almost hourly flights between Tenerife North Airport and La Palma, but as all UK flights arrive at Tenerife South Airport, this option requires a 60-90 minute taxi-transfer between the two airports. Travel via Gran Canaria does not involve changing airports, but you may have a lengthy wait for your connection as flights to La Palma generally only operate twice daily. Another alternative is travelling on Iberia from London Heathrow via Madrid.
Island Combinations
As well as arranging one or two week holidays staying at a single location, we can arrange fly-drive itineraries visiting several hotels on one island, multi-centre holidays combining two or three different islands, and other tailor-made arrangements such a short breaks or unusual durations. Naturally, we cannot list prices for every possible combination, so please call us to discuss your planned itinerary, and we will work out an individual quote covering all the different elements, including any inter-island flights or ferries.
Lanzarote & La Graciosa: As the only way to reach La Graciosa is by boat from Lanzarote, these two islands are well suited to a twin-centre holiday.
Lanzarote & Gran Canaria: Several daily flights operate between Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. Please note, however, that you can not normally fly into one island and back from another, unless travelling on Easyjet or via Madrid on Iberia, so you will usually need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight.
Lanzarote & Tenerife: Several daily flights operate between Lanzarote and Tenerife North Airport. Please note, however, that you can not normally fly into one island and back from another, unless travelling on Easyjet or via Madrid on Iberia, so you will usually need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight.
Gran Canaria & Tenerife: Very frequent flights operate between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and there is also a high-speed ferry between Puerto de la Nieves in Gran Canaria's north-west corner and Santa Cruz de Tenerife up to six times a day. Please note, however, that you can not normally fly into one island and back from another, unless travelling on Easyjet or via Madrid on Iberia, so you will usually need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight.
Gran Canaria & La Palma: Flights operate twice a day between the two islands, but you will need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight, unless travelling on Iberia via Madrid.
Tenerife & La Gomera: Travel to La Gomera invariably involves travelling via Tenerife, and several daily ferries connect the Gomeran capital, San Sebastian, with Los Cristianos, just a short taxi ride from Tenerife South airport, so these islands are well suited for a twin-centre holiday.
Tenerife & La Palma: A daily ferry links Santa Cruz de la Palma with Los Cristianos, and there are frequent flights between Tenerife North Airport and La Palma. Unless you are travelling on Iberia via Madrid, you cannot fly into Tenerife and back from La Palma (or vice versa), so you will need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight.
Other island combinations are less straight-forward, as there are no direct links, with the exception of Lanzarote and La Palma, which are linked by a direct flight in high summer (June to September) only.
