Just metres from the sweep of beach that forms the first of the two bays that make up the beachside hamlet of Xerocampos, the Atki Studios were among the first rooms to open their doors to the village's summer visitors. The three small buildings are now well-established and attract many return guests.
Atki has a number of double studios, ideal for couples who want no more from their holiday than to enjoy the simple pleasures of a Greek seaside retreat. The studios are however equipped with some of the modern conveniences now expected. Each has a kitchenette complete with 2-ring hob and fridge and a tiled shower room in addition to independent air-conditioning, for which a small charge is payable locally.
Patio doors open onto a sea-facing balcony where many guests spend hours relaxing and reading or enjoying simple meals whilst watching the colours of the sea change and scanning the horizon for seabirds and ships.
Xerocampos' small mini-market is just a few minutes stroll away and the tavernas and a second sandy beach can also be reached on foot, past the tiny whitewashed chapel on a small headland. The hire car included in the cost of the holiday enables guests to venture further afield and explore the other hidden gems in this remote corner of the island, including the evocative site at Kato Zakros and the delightful harbour town of Sitia.
Akti is an ideal spot for the sort of peaceful seaside holiday that it is increasingly hard to find in the Mediterranean.
