Archangel Village House

Chios, Samos, Ikaria and FourniChios › Mesta

A charming stone house divided into two self-contained apartments on the edge of the delightful medieval village of Mesta.

Standing in a slightly raised position on the edge of Mesta, this attractive stone house, divided into two completely self-contained apartments, is ideal for guests wishing to enjoy the unique ambience of this exceptionally well-preserved medieval village, but who prefer a more open outlook than the labyrinthine alleyways of the walled village centre could afford.

Accessed via a rough track (the nearest car access is a approximately 3 minutes' walk away), Archangel stands in its own small garden. The grounds are sloping, so although the two apartments are on separate floors, each is accessed via its own front door on opposite sides of the building. Despite being of relatively recent construction, the house was built using traditional methods and materials to blend in with the style of the village. As well as being visually pleasing, the thick natural stone walls help to moderate the temperature inside the house, but hot and cold air-conditioning has also been installed to ensure a comfortable environment regardless of the season.

Each apartment comprises a living room with TV (local channels only) and DVD player, a separate kitchen with a two-ring hob and a fridge, a bedroom with double bed and a shower room. The upper-floor apartment has two balconies (one off the kitchen facing south, the other off the bedroom facing west), whilst the ground-floor apartment has a garden terrace on two sides. The upper apartment also benefits from some additional equipment such as a washing machine and microwave oven; the lower apartment is a little simpler and more compact and priced accordingly.

Mesta's atmospheric village centre is just a five-minute stroll away and boasts a handful of tavernas, a couple of cafés, two mini-markets, an ice-cream shop and a travel agency arranging guided walks and excursions, so for those simply wishing to enjoy the village and its immediate environs, a car is not strictly necessary. Those wishing to explore further afield should take advantage of our reduced car hire rates, as should those who enjoy sea swimming, for there are several delightfully unspoilt coves within a 10-minute drive from the village, our personal favourites being Traxili with its colourful fishing boats, and Agia Dynami with its strikingly turquoise waters.
