This restored cottage stands in a residential area a short drive from the island capital and offers accommodation full of traditional charm, as well as its own small swimming pool

Recently restored, Casa Anastasio is a delightful property offering comfortable accommodation full of traditional charm and character, with the added bonus of a private swimming pool. The single-storey house stands in a quiet residential area, approximately 50 metres off the road that leads to the village of Mazo. The relaxed beach resort of Playa de los Cancajos is 6 km away, and the atmospheric island capital, Santa Cruz, is just 2 km further, so in spite of its rather rural appeal, Casa Anastasio is by no means excessively isolated.

Dating from the late 19th century, the house retains a wealth of original features, including handsome pitched wooden ceilings, traditional sash windows and wooden or terracotta-tiled floors. Following the house's sympathetic restoration, the furnishings and décor were chosen to enhance the old-world charm of the property, whilst adding an up-to-date level of comfort and convenience.

The living room benefits from an original fireplace and has a rocking-chair, two hammock-style chairs and a sofa. The kitchen is open-plan and has a fridge-freezer, a ceramic hob and an oven. A small hallway leads to the two bedrooms (one double and one twin), both of which are tastefully furnished with wrought-iron beds and pretty fabrics. Two attractively tiled bathrooms (one with a bathtub, the other with a shower and a washing machine) complete the accommodation.

Standing in a walled stone garden with a wrought-iron gate, Casa Anastasio offers a good degree of privacy. There is plenty of space to relax amongst the colourful flowering shrubs, and parts of the grounds have views of the mountains or the ocean. To further enhance the appeal of the house, its owners have recently added a small but very enticing kidney-shaped swimming pool, and for those who enjoy eating alfresco, there is an outside dining area with a built-in barbecue.

There are a few simple eateries in the surrounding villages, but for a wider selection of restaurants, both Santa Cruz and Los Cancajos can be reached in around 15 minutes using your complimentary hire car. The island's airport is just a couple of miles away, so whether you arrive on La Palma by plane or by ferry, you'll be able to relax in this charming retreat in no time at all.
