A charming country cottage with its own plunge pool just outside an authentic small town, with excellent walking on its doorstep and easy access to the east coast motorway for exploring further afield.

Perched on the side of a ridge overlooking the Barranco de Guayadeque, Casa Oronado is a very charming single-storey house built from natural stone. The house stands approximately 1.5 km from Ingenio, a small Canarian town traditionally known for sugar cane farming, lace making and the production of goats and ewes cheese. There are several authentic bars and restaurants in the town, as well as two lovely bakeries with ancient stone ovens, and sufficient shops for your day-to-day needs. The church of La Candelaria in the centre of the town is worth a visit, as is the local handicraft museum. Ingenio offers easy access to the east coast motorway, so that both the resort beaches of the south and the island capital Las Palmas to the north can be reached in approximately half an hour, whilst the nearest beach, Arinaga, is 12 km away and primarily frequented by locals. Closer to home, there are good hiking trails through the fertile Guayadeque valley, which are at their most attractive in early spring when the almond trees are in bloom. There are also ancient burial mounts, and you can learn about the island's aboriginal people at the Guayadeque Museum, built into a cave at the start of the ravine.

Whilst rustic in style and bursting with traditional character, Casa Oronado offers comfortable accommodation for a couple or a small family and has been furnished and decorated with care and attention to detail. The main entrance leads directly to the living-dining room with a sofa and two armchairs, and electric fireplace, TV (local channels only) and a dining table with four chairs. Patio doors lead onto a covered veranda with views across the valley. The small kitchen is separated from the lounge area by a breakfast bar and has a four-ring ceramic hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffeemaker and toaster. One of the two bedrooms has a double bed, the other has twin beds, and there is a recently renovated shower room between the two. Free WiFi is provided, and the house is partially air-conditioned.

Casa Oronado has three distinct outside areas, so you can choose sun or shade at various times of the day, as well as enjoy different outlooks, across the valley towards the mountains in the west, and towards the distant coast in the east. One of these terraces incorporates a small but beautifully designed plunge pool bordered on two sides by rock walls with a small waterfall in the corner. There is also an al-fresco dining area with a brick-built barbecue, and patio furniture and sun-loungers are provided, so whilst the house is well placed for exploring the island by car or the immediate surroundings on foot, it is equally suited for a relaxing stay in authentic surroundings. .
