If you are looking for a thoroughly relaxing holiday in a scenic setting right by the sea, look no further than the charming, family-run Dogan Hotel. The Dogan stands in the sleepy seaside village of Orhaniye, just 20 km from the lively resort town of Marmaris, but a million miles away in terms of ambience and pace of life. The atmosphere here is as tranquil as the sea is calm, which is almost like a millpond, thanks to the sheltered position of the deep, fjord-like bay.
There are just 30 rooms, so the hotel retains a personal and pleasantly intimate atmosphere. Arranged on two floors, the rooms offer a choice of double or twin beds, with a few triple rooms also available on request. All the rooms are simply furnished, well maintained and equipped with air-conditioning. Each has an en-suite shower room and either a balcony or a terrace, most with good views of the sea beyond the pretty gardens.
The hotel's mature gardens lead directly to the shore, where there is a virtually private beach area, which is a mixture of coarse sand and pebbles, with a wooden jetty easing entry to the sea. For those who prefer freshwater swimming, there is an enticing pool in the gardens, as well as a paddling pool for younger guests. Wooden sunloungers are provided both by the pool and on the terrace that borders the beach, with trees and parasols donating welcome shade. For those who fancy a change of scene, the hotel's owners offer occasional excursions on their own boat to some of the hidden coves further along the bay (payable locally).
Apart from the enchanting location, it is the warm welcome and unobtrusive hospitality offered by the Dogan family that has earned the hotel such a loyal following. Although we offer the hotel on a bed & breakfast basis, many guests choose to make use of the hotel's own restaurant in the evenings, with the weekly lamb night being particularly popular. Those who prefer to dine around can reach the centre of Orhaniye and the original harbour on foot in around 20 minutes, whilst the picturesque marina is even closer. One or two evenings a week, the family also use their boat to take guests to the restaurants at the far end of the bay, a rather romantic way to travel to and from dinner.
The Dogan Hotel may not offer the height of luxury, but its idyllic setting and friendly, informal atmosphere are so conducive to complete relaxation that they more than make up for any lack of frills.
