Finca La Crucita

The Canary IslandsLanzarote › Haría

Situated in one of Lanzarote's greenest and prettiest villages, these comfortable and spacious houses are ideal for those seeking a peaceful rural setting within walking distance of a few authentic local restaurants.

Situated in the fertile north of the island, in what is known as the "valley of 10,000 palm trees", Haría is undoubtedly one of Lanzarote's prettiest villages, not only due to its relatively verdant surroundings, but also because of its wealth of traditional charm. In the streets around the lovely village square there are several good restaurants, some interesting craft shops and even a couple of small museums - one dedicated to religious art, the other an eclectic collection of miniatures. The weekly artisan market on Saturday mornings draws its share of visitors, but for the rest of the week the village has a delightfully sleepy atmosphere.

Quietly situated on the edge of the village, yet no more than ten minutes' walk from the local restaurants and mini-markets, Finca La Crucita is a cluster of seven self-contained houses, each individually designed in classic Lanzarotean style, with gleaming whitewashed walls, exposed lava stones and woodwork painted in the customary green.

All the houses are named after local villages: "Órzola", "Yé" and "Mala" each have one double and one twin room, whilst "Tabayesco", "Guinate", "Arrieta" and "Máguez" have three bedrooms each (one double and two twins).
All the villas offer very comfortable accommodation, with extremely spacious living rooms furnished with large sofas and equipped with satellite TV. The fitted kitchens come complete with large fridge-freezers, full cookers, microwave ovens, coffee-makers and toasters, and each villa has a small laundry room with a washing machine and an internal patio for drying clothes. There is plenty of wardrobe space in all the bedrooms, and each villa has two rather smart shower rooms lined with marble. Each house has its own terrace with lovely views over the surrounding countryside, and there is a communal stone garden which incorporates a small swimming pool (approx. 8 x 4.5m) with sunloungers.

Although Haría feels far removed from the busy resorts of the south coast, it is in fact an excellent base from which to explore many of the island's top sights, as the Cuevas de los Verdes, the Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Rio can all be reached by car in around 10 minutes. César Manrique's final creation, the Jardín de Cactus at Guatiza is only slightly further, as is the former island capital Teguise. The nearest sandy beach is 6 km away at Arrieta (Playa de la Garita), or you could drive up to Orzola and take the boat over to La Graciosa for the day. The area around Haría offers the best walking country on Lanzarote, or you could of course choose to do absolutely nothing, other than contemplating the handsome architecture, attractive views and serene ambience of this wonderfully relaxing retreat.
