Hotel Beatriz Atlantis & Spa

The Canary IslandsTenerife › Puerto de la Cruz

Completely remodelled in 2008, the stylish Beatriz Atlantis offers the comfort and flair of a city hotel in a beachside setting, and boasts an impressive rooftop spa.

Situated on the seafront in the Martiánez district, directly opposite the dark volcanic beach and just a few minutes' stroll from the famous César Manrique-designed seawater swimming pools, the Atlantis has always occupied a convenient and prominent position in town. Recently reopened after a major refurbishment programme following its purchase by Beatriz Hotels, it now offers what is arguably the most stylish accommodation to be found in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz. Beatriz Hotels are a respected Spanish chain with a small portfolio of both city and resort hotels, and this expertise is apparent in the design and ambience of the Atlantis, which combines its resort setting and facilities with the sleek elegance of a city centre hotel.

The hotel's 286 rooms, spread over 14 floors, are comfortably furnished and decorated in a contemporary style, with well-chosen fabrics complementing the neutral tones of the furnishings and the bleached-wood floors. All are equipped with flat-screen satellite TVs (limited English-language channels), telephones, air-conditioning/heating and safety deposit boxes (payable locally). The vast majority of the modern en-suite bathrooms have large walk-in showers, but a small number of rooms with bathtubs are available on request. Each room also has a balcony, and in our opinion it is well worth paying the supplement for an ocean view.

The public areas are just as impressive, from the spacious entrance hall to the smart dining room, where extensive buffets - with some dishes cooked to order - are served for both breakfast and dinner. The dining room opens onto a terrace, so in good weather you can enjoy breakfast or dinner alfresco. The hotel's bar also opens onto a comfortable "chill-out" terrace, whilst just beyond, the hotel's large outdoor swimming pool is well stocked with sunloungers.

However, the hotel's crowning glory - quite literally - is the splendid rooftop spa centre, its glass dome allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views in all directions whilst using the facilities, which include a hydrothermal circuit pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and a whole host of massage and beauty treatments (all payable locally). There is also a gym, which is free of charge.

Those wishing to hire a car for part of their stay will find a convenient underground car park below the hotel (please note that parking charges apply as it is run by the local authority). But with all of Puerto's attractions close to hand, you may well decide to simply divide your time between exploring on foot and relaxing at base, making the most of the hotel's comfortable accommodation and excellent facilities.
