Hotel Club Barbarossa

TurkeyKalkan, Kas and Patara › Kas

Scenically located on the Cukurbag peninsula, this small hotel's ground lead right down to the sea, with various charming terraces from which to enjoy the splendid views.

A fabulous waterside location, combined with friendly personal service and a wonderfully relaxed holiday atmosphere, are the key factors that have made the well-established Club Barbarossa one of the most popular hotels in Kas. Built into the rocky headland of the rugged Cukurbag peninsula, the Barbarossa faces the mainland across the deep, fjord-like bay, so that the waters that lap its attractively landscaped terraces and swimming platforms are usually as calm as they are clear. This steep setting makes the hotel unsuitable for travellers with walking difficulties and families with young children, but grants glorious views across the bay to the various public terraces, and to many of the guestrooms.

Club Barbarossa comprises 18 rooms and 8 suites, each with a balcony or terrace. As well as being individually furnished in a mildly eclectic range of styles, the rooms vary in terms of size, layout and outlook, but all offer a good level of comfort and space. The standard rooms are between 15 and 20 square metres in size and have either garden views or sea views. Also offering a choice of views, the deluxe rooms are larger (typically 25 30 square metres), whilst the corner deluxe rooms are all sea-facing and particularly light and airy inside thanks to their dual aspect. At between 35 and 50 square metres each, and with a separate lounge area, the suites are large enough for up to four people and also benefit from Jacuzzi bathtubs. Amenities common to all the accommodation types include air-conditioning, satellite TV, free wi-fi internet access and modern ensuite bath or shower rooms.

Most guests will of course choose to spend most of their time outdoors, and Club Barbarossa's grounds offer plenty of inviting corners in which to unwind and admire the views. Just below the hotel building, the main terrace incorporates a good-size infinity swimming pool and a pool bar, whilst smaller relaxation areas cascade all the way down to the shore, where ladders and a wooden jetty enable easy access to the crystalline waters of the bay, perfect for snorkelling or for exploring using the hotel's canoes or speedboat (payable locally). For those just wishing to sunbathe or immerse themselves in a good book, there are plenty of sunloungers and giant cushions, and a bar close by to keep you supplied with refreshing drinks.

Weather permitting, all meals are served either on the pool terrace or the café-bar near the waterfront. The hotel's half-board package consists of a traditional Turkish buffet breakfast and your evening meal, which is prepared using predominantly locally grown fruit, vegetables and herbs. Should you feel peckish during the day, a light lunchtime buffet is usually laid out conveniently close to the shore, or you can order tempting snacks including Turkish pide and pizzas baked in a traditional wood-burning oven.

For those occasions when you can tear yourself away from this haven of relaxation, a local bus service connects the Cukurbag peninsula with the centre of Kas at regular intervals, and should you fancy the occasional night out on the town, a taxi back won't break the bank either. Then again, you may well prefer to simply spend your evenings on one of the hotel's terraces, gazing at the twinkling light across the bay and enjoying the friendly atmosphere created by the hotel's welcoming staff and their international clientele.
