Standing in lovely clifftop gardens to the east of Funchal, Quinta Splendida offers spacious self-catering accommodation combined with the services and facilities of a 4-star hotel.

Set in its own stunning botanical garden, the renowned Quinta Splendida offers both hotel and self-catering accommodation in a peaceful and scenic location. Although there are 140 rooms, studios and apartments in total, Quinta Splendida does not feel like a large hotel, for the accommodation has been attractively designed in traditional style and consists of several low-rise terraces dotted across the luxuriant grounds. Any keen botanist could spend as many happy hours identifying the literally hundreds of species - bestowed by both nature and design - as the gardeners do lovingly tending them. The hotel even organises weekly walks around the property with a botanical guide. The gardens are not only decorative as the vegetable patch also supplies fresh vegetables and herbs for the intimate gourmet restaurant in the original manor house.

The self-catering apartments and studios are extremely spacious and come equipped with open plan kitchenettes, direct dial telephones, satellite televisions and en suite bathrooms complete with hairdryers. Each has a shady veranda or balcony and all are just a short stroll from the large outdoor heated pool with its sun terraces and bar. The one bedroom apartments, which are large enough for families of up to four people, all have sea views, whilst the studios have either garden views, or sea views at a supplement.

For those guests who wish to enjoy a sumptuous buffet breakfast every morning, we also offer spacious and well-equipped hotel rooms with twin beds. The island's two golf courses, where hotel guests benefit from a reduction on the green fees, are only a short drive away and golf widows can relax and enjoy the hotel's fitness and beauty facilities, browse in the small art gallery or lunch by the pool. The recently opened Spa has an indoor pool and in addition to the jacuzzi, and sauna offers a range of beauty treatments, (payable locally).

From Quinta Splendida it's just a short stroll into Caniço, a delightful village with an attractive square, a well-stocked supermarket and a number of small shops and restaurants. Two kilometres further on is the growing coastal resort of Caniço de Baixo with its own selection of shops and restaurants, a rocky beach and even a scuba diving school. The bustle of Funchal is just 13 kilometres away and the hotel runs a regular courtesy bus there (except on Sundays), should guests wish to stray from the haven of the gardens.
