Hotel Melva Suite

The Canary IslandsGran Canaria › Firgas

A small, newly built hotel with just eight spacious and comfortable suites, in an excellent location for keen walkers

Siuated on the edge of the small village of Firgas, renowned for its sparkling mineral water, this recently opened hotel is ideally placed for exploring the charming old towns and villages of Gran Canaria's northern region, and the imposing mountain scenery of the island's interior. The hotel itself is situated approximately 450 metres above sea-level, and there is some excellent terrain for walking right on your doorstep. Using the hire car that is included in your holiday here, you can reach the picturesque town of Arucas with its distinctive Colonial-style buildings in just a few minutes, whilst the bustling island capital, Las Palmas, is approximately 15 km away.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of staying at the Hotel Melva Suite is that, after a day's hiking in the mountains or exploring along the north coast, there is no need to venture out again in the evenings, for the cosy on-site restaurant, Irejul, has already gained quite a reputation for its traditional Canarian cuisine with a creative twist. Dishes are freshly prepared using produce from the hotel's own organic kitchen gardens and other carefully sourced ingredients, and the bodega is well stocked with Canarian, Spanish and international wines. Special dietary requirements, including gluten-free diets, can be catered for; please advise us in advance. Due to the restaurant's local reputation, a separate larger building, which also houses the reception, is occasionally used as a venue for weddings and other celebrations. If you do fancy the occasional change, there are two typical local grill restaurants within easy walking distance.

All the guest accommodation is situated in another separate building. There are just eight guestrooms, which as the hotel's name suggests, are in fact all suites with a bedroom and separate living room. Although divided into three categories, they are all similar in size and have either a large terrace or a stone balcony. All have king-size double beds, and all are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safety-deposit boxes, minibars, free WiFi and en-suite shower rooms with hairdryers and a selection of toiletries. The four "Junior Suites Rural" (two on the ground floor and two on the upper floor) are traditional in style and have tiled shower rooms. The two "Junior Suites Deluxe" are more modern in style with shower rooms fully clad in marble, whilst the two ground floor "Grand Suites Deluxe" have large terraces, hand-carved four-poster beds and marble bathrooms with both a walk-in shower and a hydro-massage bath tub.

The hotel's friendly owners will happily advise you on local places of interest and can arrange activities such as horse-riding nearby. There are also two golf-courses within a short drive from the hotel.
