Hotel Villa Kerasia

As you approach Villa Kerasia after the short but scenic drive through the hills south of Heraklion the handsome stone exterior exudes pure charm. Once inside, the careful restoration and tasteful décor continue to delight, as does the informal yet attentive hospitality.

There are just eight rooms, which vary in size and shape as Babis, the owner, was anxious to preserve the original proportions of the old country house when he embarked on the extensive renovations. All the rooms are spacious, light and airy and naturally have en suite bathrooms (some with bathtub and some with a shower). The other common features are double beds (the two largest rooms also have a single sofa-bed), a table and chairs, a small fridge and a television with limited satellite channels. Air-conditioning is also provided in all rooms.

Breakfast is taken in the pretty communal room where delicious home-cooked dinners can also be served if requested in advance. There is another smaller room for relaxing and perhaps discussing your day's adventures with fellow guests and the whole atmosphere is that of an exclusive county house party.

The lawned and tree-filled gardens enclose an L shaped pool where guests can enjoy a little gentle exercise before relaxing on the decking and admiring the views of the patchwork of vineyards and olive groves. Alternatively the more energetic can take to the numerous local pathways and enjoy the countryside and surrounding villages at rather closer quarters.

Despite the rural setting there are a number of small shops and restaurants within a few minutes drive, Heraklion, Knossos and the north coast beaches are all less than 30 minutes away and there are numerous other sites and attractions just a little further afield.
