Just a kilometre away from the long sandy beach and all the facilities of the small south coastal resort of Kalamaki, the five detached Phaestos Villas stand at the foot of the hillside, commanding wonderful views across the coastline. Each villa has its own private pool, complete with hydro-massage system and separate children's pool, set in its own substantial garden.
The interiors of the villas have been furnished to provide all the modern comforts visitors now expect in a style that pays homage to traditional Cretan décor. The open plan living room has the obligatory satellite television, DVD player and hi-fi system alongside a traditional open hearth and graceful stone arches. In the kitchen area there is a full cooker, fridge and microwave whereas outside there is a traditional stone barbecue.
Upstairs there are two comfortable and attractive, air-conditioned bedrooms - one double and one twin - and there is a shower room - one with additional hydro massage jets - on each floor. Sleeping accommodation for a fifth and sixth person is provided by the convertible sofas in the living room.
Although nearby Kalamaki has enough beachside cafes, tavernas and small shops to cater for everyday needs, a hire car is provided in the cost of the holiday to enable you to make the most of the area. There are a number of atmospheric archaeological sites along the southern coast, not least Phaestos and Gortys, in addition to some delightful villages and the small coastal resorts of Matala, Agia Galini and Lendas. Whether you just wish to relax by the sea or explore this fascinating area the Phaestos Villas are an excellent location.
