Tucked away in the backstreets of the fishing village of
Vueltas, this charming property will appeal to guests who value a friendly
welcome and homely atmosphere above luxury furnishings or the latest styling.
Casa Humberto comprises just eight studios and apartments, and its charming
owners, Humberto and his wife Conchita live on site. Their English may be
limited, but that does not prevent them from really looking after their guests
and making everyone feel thoroughly at home.
Casa Humberto stands on the crest of a small hill, which
grants all but the ground-floor apartments lovely views over the village to the
ocean, but it should be noted that the final part of the approach to the
building is rather steep and only possible on foot, so we consider the property
unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties.
The two one-bedroom apartments are situated on the lower-ground floor, and whilst
they do not enjoy the same views as the studios
on the higher floors, they benefit from their own terraces and small gardens.
The living-dining room is at the front and incorporates a simple kitchenette
(with hob, fridge and kettle) and a sofa-bed for the third person. The twin
bedroom at the rear has a window to the lounge, and naturally there is an
en-suite shower room.
Humberto and Conchita live on the upper ground floor, whilst
the middle floor comprises four studios, which offer similar facilities as the
apartments, but are open-plan in layout and slightly smaller. They do not have
a sofa-bed, but all have small balconies with views towards the sea. On the top
floor are two penthouse studios, which whilst rather compact inside benefit
from large terraces with panoramic views.
There are a few appealing local restaurants and a couple of
atmospheric bars in the narrow streets that lead from the harbour to Casa
Humberto, and basic grocery shops are also within easy walking distance. The
rocky harbour beach is just a 5-minute walk away whilst Valle Gran Rey’s main
beach, La Playa, can be reached on foot in 15-20 minutes and boasts a further
selection of shops and restaurants.
Offering unpretentious accommodation with a good dose of
local character and a very personal ambience, Casa Humberto is one of Valle
Gran Rey’s hidden gems.
