As a result of the interest generated by
a recent Daily Telegraph article, following a trip we organised for one of
their journalists, we have decided to offer a similar ‘foodie’ experience to
two small groups of guests.
The week is designed to
offer an introduction to the supremely healthy yet mouth-watering Cretan
cuisine and an insight into its origins and preparation, not of course
overlooking the surprisingly good local wines, which you will have plenty of
opportunity of enjoying to the full.
You will be accommodated in comfortable
studios at Villea Village, where a substantial a buffet breakfast will be
provided each morning. Your hosts Vassilis Karamanli & Suzanne Quinn will
be on hand to make all the practical arrangements and offer their own insight
into Crete’s culinary traditions.
During the week there will be two walks
where, in addition to admiring the views, participants can learn to identify
and gather the fragrant local herbs. One of the walks will culminate in a special
dinner at the much-praised Cave of the Dragon.
On another day there will be a demonstration of the art of Cretan pie making and there will be one other food
related event or visit, according to the season.
Three further evenings meals will be
provided at local tavernas to give you the opportunity of sampling the variety
of styles of Cretan food and naturally local wine will be included to help the
evenings along.
