Casas Las Portadas

The Canary IslandsFuerteventura › La Oliva

A traditional village house, converted into two self-contained dwellings, offering rustic accommodation in authentic yet convenient surroundings

Situated in the traditional village of La Oliva, this simple but charming property will suit travellers wishing to stay away from the main tourist areas, but without having to rely on their hire car all the time. Most guests will undoubtedly want to make use of the included hire car to explore the island and visit the various superb beaches for which Fuerteventura is so renowned (both Corralejo and El Cotillo can be reached by car in around 15 minutes), but there are a few restaurants within walking distance, and the nearest shop is just a few hundred metres away, so picking up groceries for breakfast or popping out for dinner doesn't necessarily have to involve getting into the car. La Oliva also boasts a bank, a pharmacy and a bakery, as well as a couple of interesting historical buildings, such as the 18th century church Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria and the grand if decrepit fortress Casa de los Coroneles.

Las Portadas is itself believed to date back to the late 18th century and will appeal to those who rate quirky old-world character over the latest mod-cons or contemporary interior design. The single-storey building has been divided into two separate 2-bedroom apartments, each with its own external entrance. In Casa Portadas 1, both bedrooms have double beds, and the kitchen is open-plan to the living-dining area. Casa Portadas 2 has one double and one twin bedroom, and a separate kitchen-diner in addition to the living room. Naturally, each apartment also has a bathroom, and a terrace with patio furniture where you can relax with a good book or a chilled drink.
