Three charming cottages sharing large gardens and a swimming pool in a semi-rural residential area a short drive from the island capital.
- Three cottages for 2-4 people
- Self-Catering
- Outdoor swimming pool
- Car hire included
- Use of small gym
These charming self-catering cottages form part of a 40,000 sqm finca, conveniently situated just 2km from the local town of Santa Brígida in the north-east of the island. El Caserío de San José comprises three guest cottages plus the family home of the friendly proprietors, who are on hand to ensure that everything is well-maintained, and who are happy to share their amenities with their guests. Top of the list is undoubtedly the enticing swimming pool, which at 4 x 12 metres is long enough for swimming lengths, and which is bordered by a terrace equipped with sunloungers and parasols, as well as a useful cloakroom. Close to the pool there is a covered barbecue area, whilst adjoining the owners' house is a small exercise room that guests are also welcome to use.
The grounds slope down from the road towards a fertile valley, with the guest accommodation built on the lower levels and the pool near the top of the property. There are two semi-detached cottages, Casa Caqui and Casa Drago, and a detached house, Casa Pitas, set a little further down. All properties are tastefully furnished and benefit from heating, TV (limited channels) and a CD player. The open-plan kitchens in each house are equipped with ceramic hobs, microwave ovens, fridge-freezers, toasters and coffeemakers, and each has a hairdryer in the shower room. Naturally, each house also has a furnished terrace.
Casa Caqui is ideal for romantic couples, although a third person can be accommodated on the sofa-bed if required. Full of rustic charm thanks to exposed stone walls and ceiling beams, it comprises a living-dining room with open-plan kitchen on the ground floor, and a bedroom with a four-poster bed plus a shower room on the upper-level gallery.
Casa Drago next door can sleep up to four people and feels very spacious and airy, as the entire layout is open-plan (apart from the shower room, of course). On one side of the ground level is the kitchen and dining area, on the other a comfortable sitting area. A central staircase leads up to two open sleeping galleries on opposite sides of the house, one with a double bed, the other with twin beds.
The largest house, Casa Pitas, has two separate bedrooms, each with its own modern en-suite shower room, as well as a spacious living-dining room and open-plan kitchen. Whilst many original features, including the natural stone façade, were preserved, the interiors have a stylish, contemporary feel.
Catering to the local population rather than tourists, nearby Santa Brígida offers several good restaurants, a few authentic bars, and all the necessary facilities including banks, a pharmacy and a selection of shops. Just 15km from the island capital Las Palmas, and with easy access to several main roads, it also makes an excellent base from which to tour the island.
