With its immensely picturesque Old Town, dramatic setting fanning out amphitheatrically from the harbour and its pleasantly bustling ambience, it is no wonder that Kalkan has become one of the most sought-after holiday spots on the Turkish coast. Those wishing to make the most of the town's enticing restaurants and bars, its quirky shops and boutiques and its unique character and charm could not wish for a better location than the Pier House. This small boutique hotel stand just behind Kalkan's public beach right next to the atmospheric Old Town, its slightly elevated setting blessing it with beguiling sea views from its communal areas and the majority of the guest-rooms.

The Pier House consists of eleven individually designed rooms, which are mainly named after flowers and spread across several natural stone buildings. Whilst the rooms vary in terms of size, layout and orientation, all are comfortably furnished and beautifully decorated, blending traditional style elements with modern convenience. Lily has twin beds and Mimosa has three single beds; all the other rooms have large double beds, including rather romantic four-poster beds in Iris, Lotus and Peony. Naturally, each room has a well-appointed en-suite shower room, and a couple of the rooms feature Jacuzzi tubs. Other amenities found in each room include air-conditioning, a TV, a minibar/fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, free WiFi, safety deposit box, hairdryer, bathrobes and beach towels. Each room also has a balcony or terrace with a table and chairs and most have views towards the sea; the most spectacular ones can be enjoyed from the Sea Suite with its full-width floor-to-ceiling windows.

The only things separating the Pier House from Kalkan's pebble beach are a beachside café-restaurant and the adjacent car park. Should even this 30-metre walk occasionally feel like too much of an effort, or if you simply cannot tear yourself away from the Pier House's privileged vantage point, there is also a small but enticing infinity swimming pool, which can be heated if required in early and late season, and the adjacent terraces are stocked with plenty of comfortable sun loungers for guests to relax on. Should you prefer to swim in the sea from the rocky platforms of one of the various beach-clubs a little further around the bay, you can catch a boat transfer from the nearby harbour.

Days at the Pier House get off to a good start with a nutritious freshly-prepared breakfast, served on the covered terrace during the warmer months or - on request - in your room. For other meals, it is just the shortest of strolls to take your pick from the many local restaurants that line Kalkan's pretty harbour-front and the cobbled backstreets rising up just behind.
