Villa Elizabeth is one of the best-designed and most charming houses that we have had the pleasure of discovering in western Crete. Although newly built, it has been carefully constructed in a style to reflect the Ottoman origins of the neighbouring Villa Filitsa and its living room with impressive five metre arches and mezzanine area certainly makes a striking first impression.
In addition to an attractive formal dining area the living room has a cosy sitting area with leather sofas arranged by the open fireplace and large televison and steps lead up to a large mezzanine area complete with an attractively draped double bedstead. The separate kitchen has all the work surfaces, fitted cupboards and appliances that any kitchen could want and is large enough for a further dining table for less formal meals. In addition there is a spacious utility room complete with a washing machine and iron and ironing board.
From the kitchen and the living room french doors open onto a shaded patio, an ideal spot for enjoying a private pre-dinner drink or al fresco supper and admiring the lawned garden the pristine 50 square metre swimming pool and the fields beyond.
Back inside the house the accommodation is completed by a pretty twin bedroom with a neighbouring bathroom, with a walk-in rainfall shower, and a spacious double bedroom with a large en suite bathroom complete with a full size bath tub.
The village itself has a small shop and two kafenions and just a short drive away are the seaside resorts of Georgioupolis and Almirida and the inland village of Vamos, all with enough shops and tavernas to satisfy every taste. Even closer, just a ten minute drive away, is a delightful hidden cove, ideal for swimming off the rocks and with its own quintessentially Greek fish taverna.
