Maroulas Villas

CreteThe Rethymnon Area › Maroulas near Rethymnon

Four detached villas with their own pools, situated just outside a picturesque hill village a short drive from the nearest sandy beach and about 10 km from the bustling town of Rethymnon.

Maroulas is quite justifiably one of the most photographed of the old hill villages in the countryside south of Rethymnon, with its narrow lanes enclosed by old stone houses - in varying states of repair - forming a picturesque maze that is fascinating to wander. Maroulas boasts a couple of traditional tavernas and kafenions as well as mini-markets for basis day-to-day needs, and the nearest sandy beach is just 3 km away in the small resort of Platanes to the east of Rethymnon. Rethymnon Town itself is approximately 10 km away and boasts a comprehensive range of shops and an excellent range of bars, cafés and restaurants along its pretty Venetian harbour front.

Nestled against the hillside just below the village stand four detached villas along a quiet cul-de-sac. Each boasts its own swimming pool and stands in well-maintained gardens, affording a good degree of privacy and lovely views across the countryside down towards the coast.

The villas are simply but comfortably furnished and provide practical accommodation for families as well as couples. The two smaller villas, Michalis and Sevos, each consist of a living-dining room with two sofas and satellite TV, an open-plan kitchen (equipped with a cooker, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and washing machine) and two air-conditioned bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room. On the ground floor is a twin room with patio doors leading onto the terrace, whilst the upper-floor bedroom has a double bed and a large balcony with panoramic views.

The other two villas, Spiridoula and Garifalia, are similar in style and layout but a little larger, with three bedrooms in each: a ground floor bedroom with a double bed and en suite shower room, and two bedrooms on the upper floor (one with twin beds, the other with a double) sharing a second shower room and a large terrace.

Each villa's private pool is surrounded by a tiled or stone-flagged terrace and stocked with sun-loungers, and each villa has a partially shaded barbecue area with patio furniture for dining al fresco, for those occasions when even the short 300-metre walk to the nearest taverna seems too far.
