Villa Verekinthos is the ideal solution for a family or group of friends who enjoy holidaying together but desire a little privacy, as the property is made up of three adjoining buildings, which are always let as one unit. It is also ideal for groups with differing interests as it is situated in the foothills of the White Mountains in hamlet of Gerolakos, an ideal base for walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers, yet only thirteen kilometres from the beaches and bustle of Chania
The owner has restored the property to retain all its period charm but also added some quirky and imaginative touches of his own to the décor. Stone steps lead up from the parking area to walled entrance, which creates privacy for the property. The first terrace surrounds the 30 square metre pool and further steps lead up to the main terrace attractively furnished with wicker loungers and a pretty shaded al fresco dining area.
The main part of the house is on three levels with a living room occupying the ground floor where the modern additions of leather sofas, flat screen TV, DVD and CD players and even a Play Station, blend with the rooms original features and open fireplace. On the next floor is an attractive dining room and the small but fully equipped kitchen in addition to a bathroom with a full-size tub and a washing machine. An open staircase then leads up to a rather romantic double bedroom.
Just across the small courtyard, the second building has a small living room and open plan kitchenette plus a shower room on the ground floor and a double bedroom with its own balcony upstairs. From the living room there is a door into the final part of the house with another comfortable sitting room, complete with an open fireplace, and a shower room downstairs and steep wooden stairs leading up to the third double bedroom. This last part of the house also has independent access to the courtyard.
Gerolakos itself only has a petrol station and a simple kafenion, where the owner will provide delicious home-cooked meals if pre-ordered, but there are more tavernas in the nearby villages of Kato Horio and Malaxa and a shop in Kontopoula, just five kilometres away.
