Villas Sari and Kirmizi

TurkeyThe Datca and Loryma Peninsulas and Gulf of Gokova › Turunc

Two high-quality family villas in a peaceful hillside setting on the edge of a laid-back beach resort.

Travellers seeking top-quality villa accommodation in a peaceful and scenic setting, but with the facilities of a relaxed resort just down the road and those of a large and lively town just a bus ride away, will find that Villas Sari and Kirmizi really offer the best of both worlds. Discretely tucked into the verdant hillside above the picture-postcard bay of Turunc, these two detached villas stand approximately 2 km from the resort centre and the waterfront, where you will find an appealing selection of restaurants, cafés bars and shops, alongside the fishing harbour and the 500-metre sweep of sandy beach. This setting is particularly well suited to families with older children or teenagers, as you can walk down to the waterfront in less than half-an-hour, whilst the uphill return is made easier by the fact that regular local buses from Turunc to Marmaris and Icmeler pass the end of the short lane that leads to the villas.

From this lane, where you can also park your complimentary hire car, a flight of steps leads down to the two single-storey villas, which are identical, except for minor variations in the furnishings and floor coverings (Villa Kirmizi has laminate flooring, whereas the floors in Villa Sari are tiled). Upon opening your front door and entering the spacious living-dining area, you are immediately stuck by the delightful sea views framed by huge patio doors, and by the amount of light flooding the elegantly furnished interiors. Not only does the living-dining room in each villa open onto the long, sea-facing terrace, but so do both bedrooms. The master double bedroom has en-suite facilities (an open-plan bathtub and basin as well as a separate WC), whilst the twin room has its own shower room with a state-of-the-art hydro-massage shower cubicle across the corridor. The open-plan kitchen comes with a full range of appliances including a large fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and a cooker with ceramic hob and oven, and each villa has a small laundry room with a washing machine, iron and board. TVs and DVD players are provided in the living rooms, and all the rooms have their own air-conditioning units.

Each villa's terrace is equipped with furniture for alfresco dining and a couple of deckchairs for simply relaxing and admiring the views. Both villas also have their own swimming pools (approximately 5 x 10 metres) and a lawned garden, with mature olive trees and flowering shrubs framing rather than interrupting the lovely sea views, whilst also ensuring a decent degree of privacy. There is even an outside Jacuzzi to add to your options for relaxation.

Whilst by no means overdeveloped, Turunc offers enough facilities to keep holidaymakers of all ages entertained. In addition to an ample selection of eateries from simple pide places to more sophisticated seafood restaurants, several low-key bars and cafés create a pleasant buzz in the evening, whilst during the daytime, a range of watersports is on offer in high season. There's a variety of boat trips from the harbour, and water-taxis provide an alternative to the local bus service should you feel like visiting the busy resorts of Marmaris and Icmeler for the occasional change of pace, or just some serious retail therapy.
