Western Crete has a wealth of walks in a variety of terrain and there is
no better way of enjoying them than in like-minded company and with
a leader who has spent many years exploring the area for his own
pleasure. Andy Cutting, our local representative, has lived in a Cretan
Village for a number of years and has been persuaded to share his
knowledge of the countryside and its byways with small groups of
walkers.
The exact itinerary is of course dependent on local conditions at the
time but there will be five days walks, with one free day, taking in a
variety of terrain and landscapes and visiting villages and archaeological
sites along the way. A minibus will be used to transport you to and
from your starting and finishing point each day.
The walks are designed for anyone with an average level of fitness and
will be between 3 and 5 hours per day, perhaps a little longer if the
group decides to stop and admire the flowers, birds and curiosities
along the way. There will be a little uphill walking but no steep ascents
as the main aim of the walks is to enjoy and appreciate the countryside
rather than to participate in a route march.
Breakfast and dinner (including some wine) will be provided at the
Tersanas Village taverna and lunches will be varied between picnics and
village taverna meals. You should come equipped for the weather
conditions and terrain and a list of suggested items to bring will be
included in your final documentation.
Price includes:
- Return flights from Gatwick to Chania (Manchester flights at a supplement).
- Accommodation at Tersanas Village Apartments on a half board basis, plus picnic or taverna lunches on the five walking days.
- Five full-day walking excursions with transfers where required
