Canary Islands Flight and Travel Information

Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are served by regular flights from most regional UK airports. There are also a few direct flights to La Palma. The remaining islands require an onward ferry connection or inter-island flight.

We are happy to book any available flight that suits your particular requirements, rather than restricting our holidays to certain flights on specific days. Supplements will apply to cover the differential in cost between your chosen flight option and the standard option upon which our published prices are based.

As most airlines now operate "fluid pricing" policies with fares rising and falling in line with supply and demand, flight supplements will vary depending on your chosen departure date, departure airport and how far in advance you book. As a general rule, supplements tend to be highest for weekend flights, especially for school holiday departures such as Christmas, Easter and Half Term, when demand invariably outstrips supply. We will provide a definite quote for your chosen departure date at the time of booking, and advise you of any charges that certain airlines apply for options such as checked-in baggage or inflight meals.

We will quote you the latest available flight times when you make your booking and advise you of any schedule changes that may occur subsequently, but please be aware that such changes are outside our control, and only constitute as a "major change" under the terms of our booking conditions if the departure time of your outbound flight changes by 12 hours or more from the timings confirmed on your original confirmation invoice.

Unless stated otherwise, check-in time for all flights is two hours prior to the confirmed departure time on your flight itineraries, which you will receive approximately two weeks in advance of travel. The flight time from the UK to the Canary Islands is approximately four to four-and-a-half hours.

Flights to Lanzarote

Direct flights to Lanzarote Airport operate from most UK airports, including Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. The widest choice of flights operates on Thursdays, with Sundays also offering a good choice of departure points. There are also daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid with Iberia. Our prices are based on direct midweek flights from London Gatwick; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £20 - 150.

Travel to La Graciosa

To travel to La Graciosa, you will fly to Lanzarote Airport, from where you will be transferred by taxi or minibus to Orzola for your ferry crossing. To make your connection on the same day, your outbound flight should be scheduled to land no later than 1430 hours and your homeward flight should depart no earlier than 1200 hours, otherwise we will need to quote you for an overnight stay in Lanzarote. In the unlikely event of an extended flight delay or any disruption to the ferry services causing you to miss your connection, we will arrange accommodation on Lanzarote at no extra cost.

Flights to Fuerteventura

Direct flights to Fuerteventura Airport operate from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Luton, Manchester Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle. The widest choice of flights operates on Wednesdays, with Saturdays also offering a good choice of departure points. There are also daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid with Iberia. Our prices are based on direct flights from London Gatwick on Wednesdays; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £20 - 150.

Flights to Gran Canaria

Direct flights to Gran Canaria Airport operate from most UK airports, including Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. There are also daily connections from Heathrow via Madrid with Iberia. The widest choice of flights operates on Tuesdays and Fridays, with a reasonable range of departure points available on other days. There are currently no direct flights from the UK to Tenerife North (Los Rodeos) Airport but there are connections from Heathrow via Madrid. Our prices are based on direct midweek flights from London Gatwick to Tenerife South; other flight options will attract supplements, typically in the region of £20 - 150.

Travel to La Gomera

Currently, La Gomera's small airport handles just two daily flights from Tenerife North Airport, operated on small aircraft. The most economical and convenient way to travel to La Gomera is usually to fly to Tenerife South airport, and take the high-speed catamaran ferry from nearby Los Cristianos, which operates several times per day and takes around 50 minutes. Our prices include the ferry crossing as well as taxi transfers between the airport and the ferry port. To make your connection on the same day, your outbound flight should be scheduled to land no later than 1700 hours and your homebound flight should depart no earlier than 1100 hours, otherwise we will need to quote you for an overnight stay in Tenerife. In the unlikely event of an extended flight delay or any disruption to the ferry services causing you to miss your connection, we will arrange accommodation on Tenerife at no extra cost.

Flights to La Palma

Direct flights from the UK to La Palma only operate once a week on Thursdays, from Gatwick and Manchester, and our prices are based on these flights. Travel from other regional airports or on different days of the week requires connections via Gran Canaria or Tenerife, and may add considerably to the overall cost of your holiday. When flying to Tenerife, you can continue your journey by ferry from the port of Los Cristianos, but the crossing takes 2-3 hours depending on weather conditions, and only operates once a day, with an evening departure from Tenerife and a very early morning return. Alternatively, there are almost hourly flights between Tenerife North Airport and La Palma, but as all UK flights arrive at Tenerife South Airport, this option requires a 60-90 minute taxi-transfer between the two airports. Travel via Gran Canaria does not involve changing airports, but you may have a lengthy wait for your connection as flights to La Palma generally only operate twice daily. Alternatively, we can also arrange connections from Heathrow via Madrid.

Travel to El Hierro

There are no international flights to El Hierro, but up to 4 flights a day from Tenerife North Airport (and one daily flight from Gran Canaria). There is also a ferry service from the port of Los Christianos on Tenerife. Ferry schedules are only confirmed a few weeks in advance, but at present the ferry operates daily except for Saturdays. Our basic prices are based on flights to Tenerife South and onward flights to El Hierro from Tenerife North with a private transfer between the two airports. If you prefer, and if ferry schedules exist for your chosen dates, we can also quote for travel by ferry, or you may wish to consider a multi-centre holiday to fit around the flight and ferry schedules.

Island Combinations

As well as arranging one or two week holidays staying at a single location, we can arrange fly-drive itineraries visiting several hotels on one island, multi-centre holidays combining two or three different islands, and other tailor-made arrangements such a short breaks or unusual durations. Naturally, we cannot list prices for every possible combination, so please call us to discuss your planned itinerary, and we will work out an individual quote covering all the different elements, including any inter-island flights or ferries. Please note that not all airlines allow flying into one island and back from another, so you may need to travel back to your first island for your homeward flight. We can advise you on the most convenient flights for your chosen combination.

Lanzarote & La Graciosa: As the only way to reach La Graciosa is by boat from Lanzarote, these two islands are well suited to a twin-centre holiday.

Lanzarote & Fuerteventura: Several ferries a day operate the short crossing between Playa Blanca on Lanzarote and Corralejo on Fuerteventura.

Lanzarote & Gran Canaria: Several daily flights operate between Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

Fuerteventura & Gran Canaria: Several daily flights operate between Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, and there are also ferry connections most days, although these are considerably slower.

Lanzarote or Fuerteventura & Tenerife: A few flights a day operate from both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura to Tenerife North Airport.

Gran Canaria & Tenerife: Very frequent flights operate between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and there is also a high-speed ferry between Puerto de la Nieves in Gran Canaria's north-west corner and Santa Cruz de Tenerife up to six times a day.

Gran Canaria & La Palma: Flights operate twice a day between the two islands.

Tenerife & La Gomera: Travel to La Gomera invariably involves travelling via Tenerife, and several daily ferries connect the Gomeran capital, San Sebastian, with Los Cristianos, just a short taxi ride from Tenerife South airport, so these islands are well suited for a twin-centre holiday.

Tenerife & La Palma: A daily ferry links Santa Cruz de la Palma with Los Cristianos, and there are frequent flights between Tenerife North Airport and La Palma. Most of the ferries from Tenerife to La Palma stop en route on La Gomera, so a three-cntre holiday combining all Tenerife, La Palma and La Gomera is also feasible.

Tenerife and El Hierro: Travel to El Hierro invariably involves travelling via Tenerife, and as neither the ferries nor the inter-island flights are as frequent as between other islands, it makes sense to top and tail your visit to El Hierro with shorter stays on Tenerife.

Other island combinations are less straight-forward, as there are no direct links, but we are happy to advise on any combination you are interested in.
