Attractive studios in a very peaceful setting in Kythira's smallest seaside village, with car hire included

Whilst the whole of Kythira remains delightfully unspoilt and eminently suitable for a peaceful, relaxing beach holiday, for those seeking a complete away-from-it-all break, these welcoming studios are particularly recommended. Platia Ammos is the smallest and sleepiest of Kythira's coastal villages, with around two dozen houses, a small minimarket and a couple of seasonal tavernas, clustered around a lovely curved sand-and-shingle beach (Platia Ammos roughly translates as "wide sand").

Akrotiri stands on a small hill at the back of the village, approximately 300 metres from the beach, with the nearest taverna found roughly halfway along the path and thus just a couple of minutes' stroll from the studios. This elevated position means that each of the 17 rooms enjoys lovely views across the sea to the south-eastern tip of the Peleponnese from its spacious terrace or balcony.

The studios themselves are attractively furnished and decorated and kept spotlessly clean. As well as the aforementioned terraces or balconies, each studio has an open-plan kitchenette with a fridge, electric hob and tea/coffee-maker, as well as a simple en-suite shower room. All studios are air-conditioned and equipped with hairdryers, and some have a sofa-bed to accommodate a third person.

Although the studios are offered on a self-catering basis, breakfast is available in the mornings and payable locally. Akrotiri's friendly owners, Angeliki and George, are always on hand to make their guests feel welcome and to assist them with any local information they may require. The comfy lounge area that adjoins the reception is a good place to chat to your hosts and fellow guests.

As local facilities in Platia Ammos are fairly limited, we have automatically included car hire in your holiday here, which will enable you to explore the rest of the island at your own pace. Using the car, it takes around 15 minutes to reach the larger resort of Agia Pelagia or the main inland village in the north of the island, Potamos. The island capital Chora in the south is just under an hour's drive away. For those who enjoy hiking, local points of interest include the lighthouse of Moudari at the island's northern tip, the beach of Vlychada with the chapel of St. Nicholas, the beautiful pebble cove of Fourni and the island hamlets of Krioneri and Karavas.
