Bali Diamond Hotel

CreteThe Rethymnon Area › Bali

A small boutique hotel offering smart accommodation for adults-only in a prime beach-front setting in the laid-back resort of Bali

Situated roughly midway between Rethymnon and Heraklion, the small resort town of Bali is set on a particularly scenic stretch of the coastline, looking out across a sheltered bay towards the rugged mountains rising up from the sea. Straddling the hillsides that link a succession of sandy coves, Bali is an ideal choice for guests wishing to have a good selection of shops, restaurants, bars and traditional tavernas within walking distance, whilst avoiding the huge hotel complexes or noisy nightlife of some of the island's bigger and busier resorts.

Opened in 2018, the Bali Diamond Hotel occupies a privileged location right next to one of these little coves, Varkotopos beach, where sunbeds and umbrellas are available for a local charge during the summer season. The hotel has been built into the hillside, so that the majority of its rooms - just over a dozen in total - enjoy splendid views of the sea and the mountains from their balconies (there are a couple of rooms without sea views which are offered at a lower rate). The guestrooms are attractively decorated in a contemporary style, with natural wood furnishings and tasteful, muted colour schemes. All are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV (limited English-language channels), free WiFi, safety deposit boxes, small fridges and kettles/tea-and-coffee-making facilities, and each has a modern en-suite shower room with a hairdryer as well as a balcony with a patio table and chairs.

Even though the beach is barely 10 metres from the hotel's front door, the Bali Diamond also boasts two swimming pools, each bordered by a terrace with sunbeds. Pool/beach towels are available for a small deposit, and there is a pool bar next to the larger pool on the first floor to keep you supplied with cold drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Thanks to the hotel's adults-only policy, the atmosphere is very conducive to relaxation.

A traditional Cretan breakfast is included in your stay at the Bali Diamond Hotel, and for dinner there are plenty of options to choose from within the resort; the two nearest tavernas are literally next door to the hotel. Various others can be reached on foot in less than ten minutes, although guests with walking difficulties should be aware that Bali is fairly hilly, and that there are several flights of stairs in the hotel itself (although the hotel does have two lifts, neither of them reaches all floors due to the building's staggered layout). Those keen to explore further afield can catch the regular bus service running between Heraklion and Rethymnon (with less frequent buses continuing further towards Chania); the bus stop is approximately 1.5 km from the hotel on the main road that bypasses Bali. Alternatively, a taxi rank is much closer, and naturally it is also possible to join organised excursions to some of the island's main sites. For those who prefer their own transport, we offer reduced car hire rates if you pick up your car on arrival at the airport; the hotel has a small car park, with spaces available on a first-come basis.
