Travellers wishing to enjoy all that the charming city of Chania has to offer could not wish for a better location. Situated in a pedestrianised area, the Elia Bettolo stands on the corner of Chania's famous leather street, which is still home to the island's traditional shoe and boot-makers, although these days you can find all manner of leather goods, craft items and other souvenirs in the small shops presenting their wares along this narrow, bazaar-like street. Chania's colourful covered market is just 100 metres from the hotel, and closer still is the town's cathedral, Trimartiri. Just past the bustling cathedral square you will find the fascinating Archaeological Museum, and from there it's just another minute's walk to the beautiful Venetian harbour front with its vibrant bar and café scene. Some of Chania's most popular restaurants are just around the corner and there is an excellent selection of others within easy walking distance, offering a choice of authentic Cretan cooking and a variety of other cuisines.

With just 20 guestrooms, the Elia Bettolo is small enough to have a really personal feel, and the friendly staff are always happy to assist with local advice and recommendations to help guests make the most of their stay. The hotel was completely renovated in 2015 and the resulting interiors are a successful blend of contemporary styling with quirky retro touches and a hint of rustic chic. Rooms are comfortably furnished and equipped with air-conditioning, small fridges, coffeemakers, satellite TV (limited English-language channels), safety-deposit boxes, telephones and hairdryers. Each room has a modern en-suite shower room and a small balcony where you can sit and watch the world go by. There are some slightly larger rooms with a convertible sofa for a third person, and a couple of suites with a separate living room. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel.

In the mornings, a wholesome buffet breakfast sets you up for the day, with a selection of Cretan treats and homemade preserves as well as a variety of hot and cold savoury options. After that, it's up to you whether you fancy checking out the town's historical sites, indulge in some retail therapy or perhaps spend the day relaxing on the beach; the nearest one, Nea Chora beach, is just a 15-minute walk away. To explore other parts of the island, such as the cities of Rethymnon and Heraklion or some of the outlying villages, or to visit some of the resort beaches that lie further along the coast, Chania's main bus station is just 400 metres away, so it is easy to get around on public transport. Those who prefer to prefer to hire their own car for at least part of their stay are advised that there is no parking in the immediate vicinity due to the hotel's location in a pedestrian street, but the nearest chargeable car parks are just a couple of minutes' walk away, and some free roadside parking can usually be found a little further away.
