A prime location on Chania's seafront and a winning combination of traditional hospitality and thoroughly up-to-date accommodation are some of the factors that have made the Porto Veneziano one of Chania's most popular hotels. The Hotel Porto Veneziano stands at the eastern end of Chania's picturesque harbour, close to the Maritime museum, and just 5 to 10 minutes' walk from the historic Venetian harbour with its lively bar and restaurant scene. This location is extremely convenient for those wishing to have easy access on foot to the diverse shopping, nightlife and cultural attractions that Chania's Old Town has to offer without staying right in the busiest part, and either side of the hotel are a handful of waterside cafés and tavernas, so popping out for dinner requires no effort at all.

With 57 rooms and suites, the hotel is small enough to retain a friendly and personal atmosphere, and its owners and staff take great pride in making their guests feel at home and helping them to get the most out of their stay. They are equally passionate about maintaining and upgrading their facilities, and an extensive renovation programme in 2013 has given the interiors a very contemporary feel. To show that comfort and sustainability can go hand-in-hand, the hotel also invested in an innovative geothermal air-conditioning system, and has chosen the all-natural CocoMat system for its beds and mattresses. Sound-proofed windows and doors as well as black-out drapes also contribute to ensuring a good night's sleep for guests.

Whilst the rooms are not large, they are attractively decorated in a minimalist maritime style. Each has a modern en-suite shower room and a balcony, and all are equipped with satellite TV (limited English-language channels), mini-bars, safety deposit boxes, hairdryers and free WiFi. Tea and coffee making facilities and irons/ironing boards can be supplied on request. Some of the rooms have direct sea views (available at a supplement), as do the Junior and Superior Suites, which are also more spacious with separate sitting areas.

Days at the Porto Veneziano get off to a good start, with a Greek buffet breakfast of homemade treats and local Cretan produce. During the day, drinks and light snacks are available from the hotel's bar, in the little courtyard garden or on the sea-facing terrace in front of the hotel. For those who do plan to hire a car, the hotel has a small car park (on a first-come-first-served basis), but the hotel is particularly convenient for those who prefer not to have to drive on holiday, as you can wile away your days pottering around the Old Town, visiting the covered market, walking along the waterfront to one of the beaches just outside the town centre, or exploring further afield by bus.
