Apartments Los Zifios

Situated at the southern tip of El Hierro, the small village of La Restinga is the southernmost settlement in all of Spain. Being some 20 minutes' drive from the nearest other village, La Restinga's focus is entirely on the ocean, and life here revolves very much around the harbour, where the local fishing fleet mingles with the dive boats belonging to the village's half dozen or so diving centres. The marine reserve just off La Restinga's shoreline is considered to boast some of the finest dive sites in the Canary Islands, and the underwater volcanic eruption of 2011 has only elevated this status, adding further interest to the unique topography and releasing nutrients that have further boosted the already abundant marine life. Experienced divers and underwater photographers will be in their element, whilst for novices, some of the dive centres offer a range of courses at various levels.

That said, La Restinga doesn't only appeal to divers, as it is arguably the most self-contained coastal village on El Hierro, with a decent selection of local restaurants and bars all within easy walking distance from each other, as well as a couple of small supermarkets and other shops for your day to day needs. As with all of our holidays on El Hierro, we have included car hire in our packages to facilitate exploring the island, but for those who prefer not to drive, we can also quote for holidays with private airport transfers instead. For those who simply come for the diving or to relax in a small seaside village, there is little reason to leave, but there is a local bus service up to six times a day to the traditional hill village of El Pinar, with onward connections from there to the island capital Valverde, itself more of a village than a town.

There are no hotels in La Restinga, but several clusters of holiday apartments, of which Los Zifios enjoys a prime location in the centre of the seafront. The building comprises four apartments on as many floors, offering modern and practical accommodation without any unnecessary frills. Each apartments consists of a living-dining room with an open-plan kitchen (with a full-size cooker and a large fridge-freezer), two bedrooms (one with a double bed, the other with twin beds) and a bathroom. The first and second floor apartments each have balconies overlooking the harbour, whilst the top-floor apartment has a larger terrace but as a result its living room is slightly smaller. Please be aware that there is no lift in the building, so any guests who may struggle with too many stairs may prefer the raised ground-floor apartment, which is reached by a short flight of six steps, but which does not have a balcony.

With the nearest supermarket just around the corner and a selection of bars and restaurants literally on your doorstep, Los Zifios couldn't be more central within the village. La Restinga's small volcanic beach is also just 100 metres from the apartments, and is sheltered from the ocean waves by the harbour walls.
