Located in the north-east of the island, Tamaduste is a small coastal village renowned locally for its very sheltered rocky cove, known as the Rio de Tamaduste, which makes this a poplar spot for sea-swimming, especially during weekends in the summer. Amidst the local homes and holiday apartments that make up the village, Tamaduste boasts a small mini-market and a couple of simple bars and restaurants, making this a good spot for travellers who do not wish to be completely reliant on their hire care (although, like all our holidays on El Hierro, we automatically include car hire in our holidays here as the island's public transport network is rather rudimentary).

Standing just a two-minute walk from the cove and its rocky swimming platforms, Monteprimero is a cluster of half-a-dozen townhouse-style apartments, of which two are available for holiday rentals. Both offer modern and practical accommodation,
with a spacious living-dining rooms with satellite TV (limited English-language channels) and a well-equipped open-plan kitchen with a large fridge-freezer, oven, hob and microwave on the ground floor. The terrace in front of the kitchen has a brick-built barbecue and patio furniture for dining outside. Stairs in each apartment lead up to the two bedrooms and the shower room, and from here another flight of stairs leads to a small roof terrace and a laundry area with washing machine. The main bedroom in each apartment has a double bed; the second bedroom in Monteprimero 1 has twin beds making this apartment suitable for up to 4 people, whilst Monteprimero 2 sleeps up to 3, with a pull-out sofa bed in the second bedroom.

As Tamaduste is just 3 km along the coast from El Hierro's airport, you may spot the occasional plane coming in or taking off, but as the airport receives less than half-a-dozen flights a day, all operated by small propeller aircraft and none later than 5 pm, noise really isn't an issue here. The small island capital, Valverde, is a 15-minute drive away, as is the ferry port, La Estaca, and naturally the hire car included in your holiday enables you to explore the whole island at your leisure.
