Nestling against an olive-clad hillside just 1.5 km from the centre of Kokkari, this comfortable and well-run hotel is perfectly placed for those looking for a peaceful and scenic location within easy striking distance of this picturesque and pleasantly bustling village. The Arion is family-run, and its helpful staff greatly contribute to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. In fact, we discovered the hotel as a result of a personal recommendation from a Cachet Travel client, who was full of praise for its levels of comfort, cuisine and service and encouraged us to add it to our portfolio.
There are 43 guestrooms in the attractively designed, three-storey main building, and a further 65 in small clusters dotted around the extensive gardens. The interiors are bright and airy, and each room opens onto a balcony or terrace. Naturally, all have en suite bathrooms, and all are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV, a small fridge, direct dial telephone and a hairdryer. An extra bed for a third person can be provided if required, and there are some interconnecting rooms, available on request.
The hotel operates a complimentary shuttle bus service to the village and beach of Kokkari, which is beautifully situated on a triangular spit of land jutting out into the sea. However, many guests enjoy the pleasant 15-20 minute stroll, especially in the evenings, when the atmospheric waterside bars come to life. During the day, Kokkari's long pebble beach is popular with windsurfers, and equipment hire and tuition can be arranged locally. Closer to the hotel (approximately 600 metres) are two rather more sheltered beaches, the very pretty coves of Lemonakia and Tsamadou, so guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming in the sea.
Those who prefer freshwater swimming will find an enticing swimming pool at the Arion Hotel, and the enchanting views down to the coast and the village make relaxing on the adjoining lawn and terrace an appealing option. A pool bar is on hand to provide light meals and cold drinks throughout the day, whilst in the main restaurant both breakfast and dinner are presented as tempting buffets, with a strong emphasis on traditional Greek recipes, as well as regular themed evenings. The half board option represents particularly good value, but for those who prefer to try out different local restaurants in Kokkari, we also offer a bed & breakfast option.
The charming island capital, Samos Town, and other points on the north coast can easily be reached using the regular public bus service, and the hotel can also arrange bicycle hire, making this an ideal location for guests wishing to explore without having to hire a car. Then again, it is equally suited to those who simply want to relax, bask in the panoramic views and enjoy the local beaches.
